Christine Faber studied literature, art history and curating in the UK before doing her PhD in American literature in Munich. She works as an English teacher in Luxembourg City. During the first lockdown, in March 2020, she started her series Places I Miss during Lockdown, an ever-growing collection of watercolour paintings that could be seen as an homage to some of the beloved cafés and bars in Luxembourg City that have had to remain closed due to the pandemic. Devoid of people, the cafés and bars in her paintings appear to wait impatiently for the return of their loyal customers. The series highlights the void that the closure of these places has left in our collective social experience during the pandemic.
